The LBW TRUST Appeal Dinner to “Launch the Plumb in Front Club”

The Trust’s annual dinner at the Sydney Cricket Ground on March 8 was a resounding success. Nearly 200 supporters and friends enjoyed pre-dinner drinks on the ground before being ushered to the Carroll Kippax room to hear from former Australian captain Steve Waugh and noted educationist and erstwhile Australian batsman Paul Sheahan. These very special and welcome guests were the most informative and entertaining interviewees.

The dinner saw the official launch of the Plumb in Front Club which is the new name for the coterie of LBW supporters who donate each time a leg before wicket decision is given in a Test match involving Australia. Hope was expressed that more supporters and friends of the Trust will join the Plumb in Front Club.

There was widespread interest in some very special items which went under the hammer and by the end of the night the Trust’s coffers had swollen by $80,000. Of this, $20,000 was contributed by one of the Trust’s newest patrons, Basil Sellers, philanthropist and a renowned lover of sport and art. Basil was interviewed during proceedings and spoke passionately about his desire to make a difference and of deep affection for cricket and the Sydney Cricket Ground.
