467 people gathered for the 6th Annual Dinner of The LBW Trust on Tuesday 31 January. The evening commenced with pre-dinner drinks served on the hallowed turf of the Sydney Cricket Ground before we adjourned to the Steve Waugh Room in the Victor Trumper Stand.
Former Captain of India Padma Shri Rahul Dravid was the guest speaker and he was
skilfully interviewed by LBW Trust Director Mike Coward. Their enthralling dialogue covered Dravid's cricketing career and his views on life and sport in India and around the world. Rahul Dravid is one of the most respected cricketers in the world and the attendance of 467 reflected that. It was standing room only and a record crowd for an LBW Trust event!
Gifted soprano Greta Bradman, granddaughter of the Don, captivated her audience when she moved between the tables while performing songs from her latest album Grace.
Among those present were the Premier of NSW, Hon. Barry O’Farrell, and the Leader of the Opposition in the NSW Upper House, Hon. Luke Foley.
Renowned commentator Harsha Bhogle, “the voice of India”, was there as was former ICC Chairman, David Morgan. Legendary singer Kamahl came as a guest of LBW Trust Patron Basil Sellers.
We were pleased to welcome seven LBW Trust Patrons: Rahul Dravid, Greg Chappell, Rodney Cavalier, Sen. John Faulkner, Basil Sellers, Malcolm Speed and Maurice Newman.
LBW Trust Ambassador Ellyse Perry was there. Other international cricketers at the dinner were: Ian Davis, Steve O’Keefe, Mitchell Starc, Usman Khawaja, Phil Emery, Ed Smith and Gavin Robertson.
LBW Trust Chairman, Darshak Mehta, proposed a vote of thanks, in particular expressing the Trust's gratitude to several long-time donors and supporters including Allen and Unwin, Link Market Services, Etihad Airways and Duncan Saville.
The feedback from those who attended has been wonderful and heartening. It is hoped that the evening will result in our coffers being substantially augmented and we expect soon to be in a position to support over 300 students. Photographs from the Dinner
