How are applications for help assessed?
We receive applications for scholarships through our partner NGOs which are vetted by the Trust's Education Committee. Once assessed, applications are referred to the full Board of Directors for approval. The approval is then communicated to the students via the NGO through whom they applied. Applications are assessed primarily on the basis of student circumstances and the availability of other funding sources with some consideration of academic potential. The Trust aims to assist as many students as possible each academic year.’
The Education Committee requires regular updates on student progress, including academic records, from each partner institution.
The Board’s Education Committee currently consists of LBW Trust Directors Kelsey Munro, Tom Bowes and Lyn O’Brien.
What are the average tertiary education fees of the students you educate?
These differ widely from country to country, institute to institute and course to course. The education fees per student in South Africa and Pakistan are much higher than India and Uganda, for example.
