LBW Scores a Century

Written on July 25th, 2010 by adminno shouts

prerana 2

It’s a major milestone for us: thanks to your help the LBW Trust has just reached its 2010 goal of supporting 100 disadvantaged students in India, Pakistan, South Africa and now also Uganda.

In the first half of the year the LBW Trust has taken on the fees of 20 new students at the Prerana Nurture Merit college in Bangalore, India, where gifted and needy students are assisted in their chosen academic careers. We are looking forward to a September visit to Sydney from Piroja Mehta from the college.

We have also funded tertiary scholarships for ten students from the village of Namwendwa, Uganda; through our new partnership with the Australian-Ugandan NGO One Village. Our congratulations to the Ugandan students, including Helen Salaamu, Alex Issabirye, Pascal Mageni, Zakalia Semakula, Geoffrey Kawayo, Fred Wanala and Otala Awali. These students have now commenced studies in teaching. Alex Luddu and Julius Mbeeko are being trained in brick laying and Joshua Mugabe is doing a motor vehicle course.

They join our existing scholarship students at the Vikash Educational Trust in Orissa, India; at Namal College and SPADO (Sustainable Peace and Development Organisation) in Pakistan; and at various institutions in South Africa.

Donation of George Gittoes painting

Written on December 8th, 2009 by adminno shouts

Well-known Australian war artist George Gittoes  has most generously donated one of his paintings, ‘Two Dogs’, to The LBW Trust. ‘Two Dogs’ by Mr Gittoes will be auctioned by The LBW Trust to raise money for the support of our students. If you are interested in purchasing the painting, please call the LBW Trust on 0425 207 258

Mr Gittoes has also referred the Trust to the Sustainable Peace and Development Organization (SPADO) – an NGO in Peshawar in the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, where he has extensive links and has visited often. After discussions with Mr Gittoes, the LBW Trust has agreed to educate young women from this troubled area as well as the Swat Valley

Ashes Dinner

Ashes Dinner

The LBW Trust is grateful to our supporters Vinay Verma and Ron Holmes, who organised a great fun Ashes dinner on July 16 at Nilgiris in St Leonards, Sydney. We are also thankful for the support of Nilgiris’ highly acclaimed chef, Ajoy Joshi, who generously donated the superb food, service and venue for the evening.

Channel 9 broadcaster and former Australian opening batsman Michael Slater, was hilarious as the featured speaker, interviewed by LBW Trust Director, Mike Coward.

About 110 people – a packed house – attended the function, which raised over $7000 for the LBW Trust.
